Fictional Worlds and Spaces of Escape and Evocation in Projects of the Past by Ana Blandiana and The Lemon House by Corina Oproae

Abstract

In our study, we start from the idea that both Ana Blandiana and Corina Oproae narrate, through fantastic, realistic, or combined procedures, emotions and experiences of Romanian communism—perceived contextually and subjectively, but analogous in terms of drama and depth—from which spaces of evasion and evocation are generated. Our approach is based on the theory of fictional worlds and focuses on analyzing in parallel this alternation of personal and collective stories, embedded in specific episodes of the communist dictatorship in Romania. The analysis of the fragments examined aims to classify the fictional worlds present in the books Proyectos de pasado by Ana Blandiana and La casa limón by Corina Oproae within current narrative trends, including autofiction, with its characteristics and values. In addition, the interstices or portals of transition that determine a spiritual and regenerative rethinking of the fictional worlds present in these texts will be highlighted.
