This article aims to analyse the phraseologisms in the Spanish novel Sin noticias de Gurb by Eduardo Mendoza and their equivalence in three Romance languages (Italian, French and Romanian). We shall focus on the degrees of equivalence in order to identify the phraseological simi- larities and differences between the four Romance languages under analysis. Further- more, taking into account the degrees of equivalence identified by Corpas Pastor (2003) in the translation process, our study also tries to set out a more detailed approach of this typology. The quantitative and quali- tative analyses reveal that in most cases the Spanish UFs have phraseological counter- parts in the other three languages and, there- fore, they admit a total or partial equivalence in translation. On the other hand, null equivalence, paraphrases, false friends, and other types of errors occur less frequently. In conclusion, the present study highlights not only the similarities in the Romance phraseology, but also the expressiveness and correctness of the three versions.
