Street life and street map of Madrid: the urban space in Ayguals de Izco’s narrative universe
Abstract
In this paper we propose to analyze and illustrate with concrete examples the importance of urban space and its design in Ayguals de Izco, present its literary gaze projected on the streets of Madrid and explore the role of the street in the configuration of the imagined city. Our analysis is based on his on his famous trilogy (María o la hija de un jornalero, La marquesa de Bellaflor o el niño de la Inclusa, El palacio de los crímenes o el pueblo y sus opresores) and three other novels: Pobres y ricos o la bruja de Madrid, Los pobres de Madrid and La justicia divina o el hijo del deshonor.
