Grammatical and semantic errors in the translation of the Qur'an into Spanish
Abstract
Our investigation’s aim is to diagnose the grammatical and semantically mistakes that had been made by translators in their work to translate the Holy Quran into Spanish, though we do not pretend to study all these mistakes. As an introduction, we choose a few verses of different Suras from our Holy book, translated by five translators: the Spaniard Julio Cortés, a Catholic; Mohammed Asad, an Austrian Jewish converted in to Islam; the translation made by Abdurrasak Pérez based on the English version, and the works of two Spanish translators: Abdel Ghani Melara Navío and Raúl González Bórnez. These two also converted into Islam. And, finally we have a direct translation from Arabic in a joint translation by two Muslims: Ahmed Abboud and Rafael Castellanos.
