This paper aims to analyze the elements of philosophical existentialism that are present in the Cuban writer's short story. To do so, I will try to demonstrate that Virgilio Piñera's literature has an existentialist basis insofar
as it addresses themes and ideas such as the importance of the individual, the absurd, freedom, death, etc. I will base this purpose on the main principles of French existentialism and German existentialism.
