Abstract

Spanish presents a dilemma with respect to its relative free word order in the sentence. In this paper a number of syntactic, semantic and pragmatic factors are addressed to determine the existence of indefinite noun phrases to the left of the verb or initial position without being syntactical subjects. Rather, they are analysed as Topics in Hanging Topic Left Dislocation configurations, linked to a null resumptive indefinite pronoun in the sentence.
