The Archaeopoetics of Carlos Fuentes: Old Papers, Diaries, Chests and Basements in the Supernatural Stories

Authors

Abstract

Carlos Fuentes is undoubtedly an essential figure in the panorama of contemporary Mexican literature, his narrative flows in two major streams: the fictionalization of realist- inspired history and fantastic literature. In this paper I intend to analyze his anthology of fantastic narrative published in 2007 under the title Cuentos sobrenaturales / Supernatural Stories, from the persistent reference to times, spaces and ancient objects, superimposed in layers, which are unearthed and reinterpreted throughout his work, a constant fascination in his creative process that I have called archaepoetics.
