The language of misunderstanding. A reading of the nonsense in La fury and other stories by Silvina Ocampo

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a reading of La furia y otros cuentos, by Silvina Ocampo, based on the central and still unexplored interest that these stories show for the nonsense forms. Specifically, it will seek to describe and characterize the way in which these stories build its fiction based on the effects of nonsense inherent in misunderstanding. Through this logic of invention, an incessant effect of frustration of meaning is set in motion. It invades not only the story’s premises but also the development of the anecdote and the climax of nonsense reached by the endings.
