A reading of melancholy in texts by Jorge Luis Borges
Abstract
This paper investigates the way in which the literary theme of melancholy can be related to the works of Jorge Luis Borges. By looking at a number of Borges’s masterpieces, one can see that the presence of melancholy is not only incidental; it becomes a central theme that enhances the complexity of the text and invites readings from multiple points of view, a typical trait of Borges’s entire body of works.
