A contemporary theatrical version of the Cervantes novel: Don Quixote, by Hadi Kurich

Abstract

Exiled in Spain since 1992, Yugoslavian born playwright, actor and director Hadi Kurich founded the Teatro de la Resistencia (Theatre of the resistance). Kurich rapidly learnt Spanish and soon started producing theatre pieces in this language. Some of these are original plays (Starry Sky
above us; Nostalgia), and some others are adaptations of classic plays. The most particular of these would be the 1995 adaptation of the Cervantine novel which we will be analyzing here.

Author Biography

Nel Diago, Universidad de Valencia

Doctor en Filología Hispánica. Actualmente es profesor titular de historia del teatro en el Departamento de Filología españolade la Universitat de València, donde imparte materias sobre teatro español, teatro latinoamericano y teoría y crítica del teatro. Ha sido Vicedecano de la Facultad de Filología de la Universitat de Valencia, y ha dirigido el Aula de Teatro de esa institución durante varios años. Desde 1999 a 2007 dirigió con José Monleón el Encuentro Internacional de Dramaturgia de La Valldigna. Crítico e investigador teatral, ha publicado numerosos trabajos, algunos de ellos en libros y otros en revistas como Conjunto, Tablas, Teatro XXI, Apuntes, Gestos, Revista Teatral Chilena, El Público, La Escena Latinoamericana, Art Teatral, Primer Acto, Cuadernos de Picadero., Criticón, ALEC, etc. Como docente ha impartido cursos y seminarios en diversas universidades e instituciones de América y Europa. En 2012 obtuvo el Premio Armando Discépolo de Investigación Teatral de la Universidad de Buenos Aires.
