Translate the telluric. "La casa que me habita" by Wilfredo Carrizales

Abstract

During the translation process of Wilfredo Carrizales’ La casa que me habita, a translator has to deal with issues that go far beyond the layer of the language of the text itself. This given piece, written in a poetic prose, is full of telluric, local metaphors and images related to the writer’s country:
Venezuela. The scope of translation issues is closely connected to the typical flora, traditional houses and tropical climate that this country abounds in. It is worth noting that the translator must not only be aware of the cultural elements relevant to this area, but also should know the trajectory of Venezuelan telluric literature, connected to such poets as Fernando Paz Castillo, José Antonio Ramos Sucre and Eugenio Montejo.
