The role of photography in the Spanish American short story: analysis of El infierno tan temido and Apocalipsis en Solentiname
Abstract
This paper tries to analyze the influence of photography in the literary work of two of the best known and more significant Latin American writers of all time. Juan Carlos Onetti and Julio Cortázar included in their short stories the photography as an essential technique to accomplish a complex narrative and sophisticated plots. They gave a solid contribution in the literary field because they made use of photography to obtain philosophical reflections. Both writers, by this technique, not only were concerned about the social situation in Latin America and their internal conflicts, but also they tried to explore the limits of wickedness and harshness of human being.
