Juan Emar against critics. The artist and the art in the artistic context at the beginning of the 20th century

Abstract

In this work, we will analyse the controversial opinions of Juan Emar towards the criticism of his time in his art articles and his work Miltín 1934 (1935). The aim of this work is to clarify the functioning of the Chilean artistic field at the beginning of the century XX. We will study the conflict between the avantgarde and the solid realist and nationalist Chilean tradition. Besides, we are interested in analysing how Emar composes these criticisms based on the communication channel: the press, in the first case, and the fiction, in the second case. For this, we will use the primary texts, as well as the theory about avant-garde movement.
