The discursive temporalization in History of the heart of Vicente Aleixandre
Abstract
The article focuses on the demonstration of temporality through verbal paradigms in Historia del corazón (History of the Heart) by Vicente Aleixandre. The complexity of the Spanish verb system is considered from a pragmatic approach, within which any poetic text is understood as a semantic-pragmatic and intentional unit of interaction, in which the temporal dimensions are the result of the dynamic process of communication. When analysing the linguistic temporality of a lyrical discourse, the temporal and modal relations of verbal paradigms and temporal adverbs are of a particular interest. Since the objects of the study are the poetic texts, characterized by the particular circumstances of enunciation (the most important being the fictional character and the multiplicity of interlocutors), first we explain the methodological framework of the so-called lyrical discursive temporalization with particular systematization of verbal paradigms in poetry. In the remainder of the paper, we analyse the selected examples of Historia del corazón.
